Bringing brain imaging to the bedside

Vita Tech works under contract with EMVision Medical Devices to install, maintain, and support its portable brain imaging scanner at participating U.S. hospitals.

The partnership

Our field partnership with EMVision

EMVision Medical Devices is an Australian medical technology company developing portable electromagnetic brain scanners for stroke diagnosis and monitoring.

Vita Tech works under contract with EMVision, providing the local presence participating U.S. hospitals need: engineers who install and maintain systems, trainers who prepare study teams, and a direct line back to EMVision's development team.

Vita Tech supports EMVision's prospective, multi-center, blinded pivotal trial of emu™ at comprehensive stroke centers in the United States. EMVision is working toward a future FDA submission.

How emu™ works
  1. 1

    Antennas

An array of proprietary antennas sends pulses of low-power electromagnetic waves into the head.

  2. 2

    Headset

The waves pass through tissue without ionizing radiation and scatter according to each tissue's dielectric properties. Sensors in the headset capture these interactions.

  3. 3

    Point-of-care neuroimaging

Physics and data-science techniques are used to reconstruct an image of the brain, and the system is designed to provide AI-based decision support on the device.

What we do

Field support for a new category of neuroimaging

Installation and site activation

We take each participating hospital from agreement to first study scan, handling site readiness, delivery, installation, commissioning, and performance verification.

  • Site readiness assessment
  • Delivery and installation
  • System commissioning
  • Performance verification
  • Network and IT coordination
  • Study start support

Operator training

Hands-on training for study teams, including stroke clinicians, emergency staff, and research coordinators, on site.

Field engineering

Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair coordination that keep every system available when a study scan is needed.

Clinical study support

Device-side support for investigational sites: system uptime, software updates, device logistics, and coordination with EMVision's clinical and engineering teams.

Engineering and development

What we learn in U.S. hospitals goes straight back into product development. We help test and refine new hardware and software in clinical research settings.

Design characteristics

How the system is designed

500–2,000 MHzUltra-high-frequency radio waves, with no ionizing radiation
<10%Scan power compared with a typical cell phone
No shieldingDesigned without special infrastructure or shielding requirements
One headsetFits all head sizes, with pre-set positioning and push-to-scan

Design characteristics as described by EMVision Medical Devices. The emu™ is an investigational device; it is used only in clinical studies, its safety and effectiveness have not been established, and it is not available for sale or for routine clinical care.

Site activation

From agreement to first study scan

  1. Site assessment

We review the clinical space, workflow, power, network, and IT requirements with the site team.

  2. Delivery & installation

Our engineers receive, unpack, position, and set up the system on site.

  3. Verification

Commissioning and performance checks confirm the system is ready before the first study scan.

  4. Team training

Hands-on sessions prepare operators, clinicians, and research staff to scan confidently.

  5. Study start

We are on site for the first study scans, answering questions and resolving issues in real time.

  6. Ongoing support

Maintenance, software updates, and remote or on-site support throughout the study.

FAQ

Common questions from hospitals

What is the emu™'s FDA status?
emu™ is an investigational device currently in clinical trials. It is being used in clinical studies at participating hospitals and, as a device still in development, is not yet FDA cleared and is not available for sale or for routine clinical care. EMVision is working toward a future FDA submission.
Does the system need a special room or shielding?
According to EMVision, emu™ has no ionizing radiation and no ferromagnetism, and needs no special infrastructure or shielding. It is portable and can be stored and moved much like a cart ultrasound.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the site, workflow, and IT requirements. We agree on a schedule with the site team during the assessment so there are no surprises on installation day.
Who trains the site staff?
Vita Tech does. We provide hands-on operator training on site, followed by new-staff onboarding and refresher sessions as teams change.
What support is available after installation?
Preventive maintenance, software updates, remote support, and on-site service, coordinated with EMVision's engineering team when needed.
How can a hospital get involved?
Participation in EMVision's clinical research is determined by EMVision and its study teams. Contact us and we'll connect you with the right people to discuss next steps.
